The hearing that will listen to citizen reactions to BWXT’s application to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) for a licence to produce nuclear fuel pellets in a Peterborough residential neighbourhood is less than 2 weeks away. On March 4, 5 & 6, CNSC’s commissioners come to town to receive reactions from 170 citizen intervenors, some in writing only and others in writing and oral presentation. 3 members of Citizens Against Radioactive Neighbourhoods (CARN) –Corinne Mintz, Jane Scott and Peter Harris– celebrate what has been achieved, recognize the scant support they have received from local politicians, and offer a prognosis for carrying on after the final CNSC decision.
